BIL's take on ultra-short-term Treasurys is entirely valid even if it doesn't conform to our view of the space. The fund invests in Treasury bills with three months or less to maturity, in contrast with our benchmark that covers Treasurys with 1-12 months remaining to maturity. As such, BIL takes on less interest rate risk and offers lower yields. Safety has a price: In a low-interest rate environment, costs for this cashlike vehicle may exceed the yield.
