The company is principally engaged in the rail transportation of raw materials, intermediate products and finished products across the Southeast, East and Midwest of the United States, and connects with other rail transportation companies to serve the rest of the United States. Norfolk Southern Southern also transports overseas cargo through several ports along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts and operates an extensive intermodal network in the eastern half of the country.
