XRP News Today: Ondo Finance Tokenizes 100 U.S. Stocks—But Not for U.S. Investors
Ondo Finance, a decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol specializing in the tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs), has expanded its offering to include over 100 U.S.-listed stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) on the EthereumETH-- blockchain. The initiative, known as Ondo Global Finance, is currently exclusive to non-U.S. investors due to regulatory and compliance constraints. The tokenized assets are backed by real U.S. stocks and ETFs held at U.S.-registered broker-dealers, as well as cash in transit, according to a company announcement. Access to the blog post announcing the initiative is geo-restricted, requiring a virtual private network (VPN) for U.S. users to bypass the limitations.
The move aligns with a broader industry trend of U.S.-based crypto platforms seeking to tokenize traditional financial instruments. For example, trading platform RobinhoodHOOD-- has recently ventured into tokenizing shares of private companies, including OpenAI and SpaceX, while CoinbaseCOIN-- has long signaled its intent to bring equity securities onto blockchain networks. Ondo Finance, having previously acquired Oasis Pro—now an SEC-registered broker-dealer—has the regulatory infrastructure to facilitate the tokenization process. However, this does not automatically extend the service to U.S. investors.
Ondo's tokenized stocks are designed to offer the same level of accessibility and flexibility that stablecoins have introduced to fiat currencies. By enabling 24/7 trading and global access, the protocol aims to overcome limitations in liquidity, interoperability, and regulatory hurdles that have historically constrained tokenized securities. The company is also planning to expand its tokenized asset offerings beyond Ethereum to BNBBNB-- Chain, SolanaSOL--, and its own Ondo Chain. This expansion is supported by integrations with major crypto wallets such as Trust Wallet, OKX Wallet, MEXC, Morpho, Ledger, and Bitget Wallet, highlighting the project's growing influence in the DeFi ecosystem.
Bitget’s chief marketing officer, Jamie Elkaleh, commented on the significance of Ondo’s launch, calling it a milestone in the tokenization space. He noted that the platform’s integration of over 100 U.S. stocks and ETFs represents the most extensive asset range currently backed by U.S.-registered broker-dealers. The combination of regulated asset backing and blockchain access is seen as a breakthrough in solving key challenges in the tokenization of financial instruments, according to Elkaleh.
Ondo Finance is also making progress in expanding the utility of its tokenized assets across multiple blockchain ecosystems. For instance, its tokenized U.S. Treasuries product, OUSG, has now been launched on the XRP Ledger, demonstrating increasing interoperability between DeFi protocols and traditional financial infrastructure. Ondo has also formed strategic partnerships with institutions such as ChainlinkLINK-- and J.P. Morgan’s Kinexys for cross-chain settlement, and with AEONAEON-- for real-world payments using its yield-bearing stablecoin, USDY.
Market data as of August 2025 shows that the ONDO token, which governs the Ondo Finance protocol, is currently trading at approximately $0.90, significantly below its all-time high of $2.10 and a yearly peak of $1.67. Analysts remain optimistic about its potential, with some suggesting that the token could experience a significant price increase in the near future, depending on broader market conditions and regulatory developments.
