The Hyderabad Cyber Crimes police have booked a case.

The victim, who had been waiting for a refund on a product, sought help by searching for Amazon's customer support number online. Unfortunately, she dialed a fake number listed in the search results. A man identifying himself as Deepak Shukla answered the call, claiming to be from Amazon's customer care. The caller convinced her to allow a screen-sharing session, which granted the fraudster access to her Amazon and Google Pay accounts. Subsequently, the scammer persuaded her to share her bank account details, leading to the transfer of ₹1,07,621 from her accounts.

The Hyderabad Cyber Crimes police have since booked a case against the fraudster. The incident serves as a stark reminder for consumers to be cautious when dealing with unsolicited calls or messages, especially those claiming to be from reputable companies. It is advisable to verify the authenticity of customer support numbers directly from the company's official website and to avoid sharing sensitive information without proper verification.
