Wave Life Sciences Ltd: B. Riley cuts target price to $22 from $31
B.Riley Securities has revised its price target for Wave Life Sciences Ltd. (NASDAQ: WVE), lowering it to $22 from $31, while maintaining a Buy rating for the stock. This adjustment follows mixed results from the company’s Phase 1 INLIGHT trial evaluating WVE-007, an investigational therapy for obesity and cardiometabolic diseases. The 240 mg dose demonstrated a placebo-adjusted visceral fat loss of 14.3% at six months, while the 400 mg dose showed limited improvement in patients with elevated baseline visceral fat levels.
The stock closed at $5.91 on the day of the data release, reflecting investor disappointment and a sharp decline from its previous close of $11.63. Analysts remain divided on the stock’s potential, with price targets ranging from $12 to $43. Jefferies and Leerink Partners have maintained positive outlooks, citing durable fat loss and continued improvement in visceral fat reduction.
B.Riley highlighted the RNA-editing franchise, including WVE-006 and WVE-008, as the core of its Buy thesis. The firm also noted that the stock appears undervalued at current levels, with potential upside based on its Fair Value calculation. However, six analysts have revised earnings downward for the upcoming period, signaling caution among some market observers.
Wave Life Sciences continues to develop its pipeline for rare and prevalent diseases, with a focus on RNA-based therapies. The company recently announced plans to present at investor conferences and has initiated the Phase 2a portion of its INLIGHT trial. Investors are advised to monitor upcoming data from Aroon Pharmaceuticals, which is also impacted by Wave’s INHBE results.
