Vietnam VN Index down 1%
The Vietnam Ho Chi Minh Stock Index (VN-Index) closed down by 1% on September 2, 2025, marking a slight decline after a period of significant market rallies. The VN-Index, which tracks the performance of all companies listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange, ended the day at 1,682 points, down from its previous close of 1,696.29 points [3].The decline was driven by a mix of factors, including reduced liquidity and a shift in investor sentiment. Despite the drop, the market remained relatively positive, with 195 stocks increasing and 130 declining. The liquidity on the southern market stood at VNĐ39.8 trillion (US$1.5 billion) [3].
The VN30-Index, which tracks the 30 largest stocks on HoSE, also saw a slight decrease, finishing at 1,883.59 points. Key blue-chip stocks such as Vietcombank (VCB), Hoa Phat Group (HPG), VPBank (VPB), FPT Corporation (FPT), and LPBank (LPB) contributed to the market's overall performance [3].
Foreign investors continued to be net sellers, with nearly VNĐ752 billion net sold on HoSE and VNĐ39.93 billion on HNX [3]. This selling pressure, coupled with the recent market rally, may have contributed to the index's downturn.
The broader economic context also played a role. Vietnam's digital technology market, valued at USD 7.7 billion in 2021 and projected to grow at an 8% annual rate through 2026 [2], continues to attract significant investment. However, the recent regulatory developments and strategic partnerships in the blockchain sector may have led to some investors reallocating their portfolios.
The VN-Index's decline is a reminder of the market's volatility and the importance of staying informed about regulatory changes and strategic partnerships that could impact the broader economy. As the market continues to evolve, investors should remain vigilant and consider the long-term implications of these developments.
