Uber (UBER.US) has hired a former Tesla (TSLA.US) executive to help with its transition to self-driving cars.
Uber (UBER.US) has hired former Tesla (TSLA.US) executive Rebecca Tinucci to lead the company's transition to a fully electric platform.
According to a company memo, Tinucci will start her role as Global Sustainability Director on September 16, reporting to Andrew Macdonald, the executive leading the company's ride-hailing business. She will help oversee Uber's long-term transition to a fully electric platform, with the goal of all trips and deliveries globally being zero-emission by 2040.
Uber is working with Chinese carmaker BYD to deploy 100,000 vehicles on its platform as part of its commitment to electric vehicles. Uber also led a $6.5 million seed round for electric vehicle charging startup Itselectric.
Tinucci led a team of about 500 people at Tesla during her time there, which was significantly reduced during CEO Elon Musk's broader layoff plan.
Uber shares have gained 19% year-to-date.
