UAE will seek clarifications on the terms of ceasefire agreement between US and Iran

The United Arab Emirates has indicated it will seek further clarifications on the terms of the two-week ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, as regional tensions persist amid reported missile and drone attacks from Iran on Gulf nations. The UAE's Defence Ministry confirmed that its air defences are actively intercepting incoming threats, including ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles according to reports. The country has also experienced disruptions at key energy infrastructure, including the Habshan gas complex, and reported injuries among citizens and expatriates as reported.

UAE President's diplomatic advisor, Anwar Gargash, emphasized to Euronews that a ceasefire alone is insufficient to address the underlying security challenges in the region. He stressed the need for a broader regional security architecture, including mechanisms for maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, which remains a critical global energy chokepoint. Gargash also underscored the UAE's commitment to strengthening its alliance with the United States and its readiness to participate in any international effort to secure the strait.

The UAE's stance reflects a strategic focus on both immediate security concerns and long-term stability, as it seeks to ensure that any ceasefire agreement includes enforceable measures to prevent future escalations and address Iran's missile and nuclear capabilities.
