Tyson Foods has permanently closed its Lexington beef processing plant in Nebraska, effective January 20. The plant employed 3,200 people and accounted for 4.8% of the nation's daily beef slaughter. A University of Nebraska-Lincoln analysis estimates the annual statewide economic impact of the closure at $3.28 billion, with total labor income losses projected at $530.43 million per year and tax revenue declines of $23.2 million in state personal income tax revenue and $10.16 million in state sales tax revenues.
