Trump Threatens to Redirect $300M from Harvard to Vocational Schools
U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to redirect 300 million dollars in funding from Harvard University to vocational schools across the nation, escalating his ongoing conflict with the prestigious institution. In a social media post, Trump stated, "I am considering withdrawing 300 million dollars in funding from Harvard University, an extremely anti-Semitic school, and redirecting these funds to vocational schools nationwide. What a great investment this would be for America, and it is urgently needed!!!"
Harvard University has not yet responded to requests for comment. This move comes as the Trump administration has already taken steps to freeze funds and prevent Harvard from enrolling international students, marking a further escalation in the dispute over the president's allegations that Ivy League schools are not doing enough to combat anti-Semitism. Last week, the university secured a temporary halt to the ban on international students through a court victory.
The administration has pressured universities to implement broad reforms, while university officials have argued that these reforms infringe on free speech and academic missions. Harvard has been a focal point of Trump's campaign activities, with the government suspending over 260 million dollars in federal research funding to the school and stating that it will not receive new funds. As a condition for continuing federal support, the Trump administration has demanded that Harvard overhaul its governance structureGPCR--, reform its admissions and faculty hiring processes, which have been accused of discrimination, and cease enrolling international students deemed to be "hostile to American values."
The government has also insisted that Harvard ensure a greater diversity of viewpoints on campus, citing concerns that the university is overly liberal. Harvard filed a lawsuit in April in response to these demands.
