Titan Mining, Teck trail ops to evaluate germanium recovery
Titan Mining Corporation (NYSE-A:TII, TSX:TI) has initiated evaluation work to assess the potential recovery of germanium from its existing process streams at the Empire State Mines (ESM) in upstate New York. Germanium, a critical mineral with applications in defense, electronics, and industrial sectors, has been identified within Titan's operations, primarily associated with mica and gangue materials rather than sulfides according to company disclosures. This finding provides clarity on the recovery approach and highlights a potential incremental cash flow opportunity alongside the company's core zinc operation.
The company's exploration and development efforts are part of a broader strategy to strengthen the U.S. domestic supply chain for critical minerals. In the first quarter of 2026, Titan reported 22% year-over-year revenue growth, with total revenue reaching $19.6 million. The company also commenced shipments of natural flake graphite, a key component of its vertically integrated U.S. graphite strategy, and advanced resource expansion drilling at its Kilbourne Graphite Project.
Titan's exploration activities in Q1 2026 extended graphite mineralization up to 2,500 feet beyond the current resource boundary, with consistent grades observed. Meanwhile, zinc production remained in line with the mine plan, with 14.2 million payable pounds produced during the quarter.
The company's balance sheet remains strong, with a cash balance of $13.8 million at quarter-end, up 13% from Q1 2025. Titan continues to prioritize operational efficiency, with C1 cash costs at $0.98 per pound and AISC at $1.01 per pound, both within or below guidance.
As Titan advances its graphite and germanium initiatives, the company aims to position itself as a key supplier of critical minerals to U.S. defense and industrial supply chains.
