In an attempt to boost sales amid market pressures, Apple's CEO Tim Cook appeared on the popular talk show hosted by Jimmy Fallon to promote the new AI features of the iPhone 16 series. During the episode, Cook joined Fallon for a stroll through New York, utilizing the iPhone 16 Pro Max's front camera for a casual video discussion. Cook shared his excitement about being part of Apple's product launches, emphasizing his presence as a face in the crowd rather than the focus of the fanfare.

Cook highlighted the upcoming release of Apple's AI feature in the U.S. market next month, specifically emphasizing its ability to summarize long emails with a single tap—an essential tool for managing the hundreds of emails he receives daily. Although the current set of AI capabilities is limited, Cook hinted at future expansions, such as generating memes and making routine tasks more efficient.

The talk show appearance comes amid concerns about the iPhone 16's market performance, spurred by a perceived imbalance in consumer interest. Initial reports indicate strong pre-orders for the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, while the Pro models face a cooler reception. Starting in October, the iOS 18.1 update will introduce AI-powered notification summaries in apps like Mail and Messages for U.S. users. It will also feature a new tool in the Photos app to remove unwanted elements from images and fill in backgrounds using AI technology. An important addition is the ability to record and transcribe phone calls, enhancing the iPhone's functionality.

Future software updates are expected to expand these capabilities globally. The iOS 18.2 update planned for December aims to bring localized AI features to several English-speaking countries, aligning with anticipated integrations with Siri and ChatGPT. Later updates, such as iOS 18.4, will potentially introduce more complex capabilities and broaden language support, promising a more comprehensive experience by March next year.
