TSLA--

Tesla has announced that its Robotaxi service is now accessible to the public, marking a significant milestone in the company's autonomous vehicle endeavors. The launch in Austin began on June 22, and despite the vehicles being fully autonomous, TeslaRACE-- has implemented a safety monitoring system that includes a safety supervisor in the passenger seat. This individual is responsible for intervening when necessary and ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for passengers.

Recently, Tesla expanded its service area in Austin for the third time. The target area has now grown from approximately 90 square miles to 170 square miles, encompassing key locations such as the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, the Tesla Texas Gigafactory, and several highways. This expansion into highway routes represents a novel exploration area for the Robotaxi program, leading to a temporary adjustment in the positioning of the safety monitors.

In instances where the route involves highway travel, the safety monitor is now seated in the driver's seat. This change ensures more immediate control capabilities if human intervention becomes necessary during these high-speed segments.

The Robotaxi features a version of Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) system that differs from what is available in standard consumer vehicles. CEO Elon Musk has hinted at an impending major update, FSD V14, which is expected to be rolled out soon. Musk also emphasized that this version is anticipated to deliver outstanding performance improvements.

This development signals Tesla's commitment to advancing autonomous vehicle technology and adapting their strategies to ensure safety and reliability as they expand services. The adjustments in safety protocols highlight the company's proactive approach in addressing the unique challenges posed by autonomous highway driving.
