Tesla Delays Model Y L Deliveries to November Due to High Demand
Tesla has announced that the delivery time for new orders of the Model Y L has been pushed back to November. This change in delivery schedule was confirmed on the company's official website on September 11, indicating that all Model Y L vehicles available for sale in October have been sold out. Customers with purchase intentions will now have to wait until November or later for their orders to be fulfilled.
The Model Y L, a six-seater electric SUV, was launched on August 19 with a starting price of 339,000 yuan. The vehicle is equipped with a full-wheel drive system, offering a range of 751 kilometers under the CLTC (China Light-Duty Vehicle Driving Conditions) standard, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 201 km/h. Despite maintaining the same width, TeslaRACE-- has expanded the horizontal space at the rear by 20mm to provide ample room for the third row of seats. The Model Y L boasts a storage capacity of 2,539 liters, with the trunk still able to accommodate two 24-inch and one 20-inch suitcases.
Industry analysts view the introduction of the Model Y L as a strategic move by Tesla to cater to the Chinese market's preference for larger, family-oriented vehicles. This localization effort is seen as a means to boost sales. Additionally, Tesla has offered various financial benefits and privileges to Model Y L owners since its launch. On September 3, reports emerged that a Tesla dealership in Beijing had sold approximately 120,000 units of the Model Y L since its August 19 release, with daily orders averaging around 10,000 units. However, industry experts have questioned the accuracy of these figures, suggesting they may be exaggerated.
In addition to the Model Y L, Tesla also released the Model 3 long-range rear-wheel drive version on August 12. This model offers a range of 830 kilometers (CLTC), a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 5.2 seconds, and a starting price of 269,500 yuan. Notably, just a month after its launch, the Model 3's new variant saw a price reduction. On September 1, Tesla's official website in mainland China announced a price cut of 10,000 yuan for the Model 3 long-range rear-wheel drive version, bringing the new price down to 259,500 yuan.
Beyond its electric vehicle business, Tesla's energy storage solutions have also seen recent advancements. On September 9, the company introduced the new Megablock energy storage system. This pre-designed medium-voltage integrated equipment utilizes the third-generation Megapack, featuring a mature and reliable inverter and fire protection system, as well as a significantly simplified thermal management module. With 78% fewer connection points, the Megablock system is expected to commence deliveries in the second half of 2026.
