Tencent stake in CICC H-share falls to 6.96% from 7.17%

Tencent's stake in China International Capital Corporation (CICC) H-share has decreased to 6.96%, down from 7.17% as of the previous reporting period. This reduction in ownership comes amidst CICC's robust financial performance during the first half of 2025.

According to CICC's semi-annual report released in 2025, the company achieved significant growth in both revenue and net income. Revenue increased by 44.0% year-on-year to 12.83 billion yuan, while net income rose by 94.4% to 4.33 billion yuan [1]. This strong performance was driven by multiple business lines, including brokerage, investment banking, asset management, and proprietary trading. For instance, brokerage revenue grew by 49.9% year-on-year, while investment banking revenue increased by 30.2%.

CICC also reported notable growth in its wealth management division, with the total number of clients rising to 9.39 million, a 23.2% increase from the previous year. The wealth management division's revenue and net income both showed substantial growth, increasing by 47% and 89% year-on-year, respectively [1].

The company's international business expansion has been a key driver of growth. CICC actively laid out a full hub exchange with an interconnection mechanism, which has led to a significant increase in cross-border business transactions. The company continues to provide market-making services for all 24 RMB double counter stocks on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, further promoting the internationalization of the RMB [1].

Despite the positive financial performance, CICC faces potential risks. The company has warned about the potential for a sharp correction in the equity market and tightening regulatory policies [1]. These factors could impact CICC's future performance and Tencent's stake in the company.
