US tech companies, including Amazon, Apple, Google, and OpenAI, have pledged to work with the federal government to improve the use of medical data for patients and providers. The voluntary agreement aims to break down barriers in the disjointed US health care system and make data sharing seamless. The initiative will involve over 60 companies and 11 health systems, with a goal of making it easier for seniors to sign up for health plans, find providers, and access their health data.

US tech giants, including Amazon, Apple, Google, and OpenAI, have pledged to work with the federal government to improve the use of medical data for patients and providers. The voluntary agreement, aimed at breaking down barriers in the disjointed US healthcare system, seeks to make data sharing seamless. The initiative involves over 60 companies and 11 health systems, with a goal of making it easier for seniors to sign up for health plans, find providers, and access their health data.

The initiative, led by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz, is expected to be rolled out this week. The plan was developed in coordination with the White House and is designed to build a smarter, more secure, and more personalized healthcare system. It aims to improve patient outcomes, reduce provider burden, and drive greater value through private-sector innovation and aligned federal leadership [2].

The initiative will involve companies committing to a voluntary framework around interoperability, or how different health technology systems connect to one another and share data. This includes principles around patient and provider access to health information and data sharing standards. Clear, a company known for its identity verification services frequently used within airports, is planning to attend the event, according to people familiar with the matter [2].

Ambience Healthcare, an AI startup backed by OpenAI and Andreessen Horowitz, is among the companies involved in the initiative. The startup, which uses OpenAI’s technology to enhance its large language models for healthcare applications, has recently raised $243 million in a funding round that pushed its valuation above $1 billion. The new capital will help the company expand its platform and strengthen its partnership with OpenAI [1].

This collaborative effort is part of a broader trend of using AI and machine learning to improve healthcare efficiency and outcomes. Companies like Moderna (MRNA) and Eli Lilly (LLY) are also leveraging OpenAI’s models to speed up drug discovery, automate documentation, and streamline operations.
