Taiwan's UMC Partners with Polar to Explore US-Based Eight-Inch Chip Production

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) subsidiary United Microelectronics Corp (UMC) has partnered with Polar Semiconductor to explore the production of eight-inch chips in the US. The partnership aims to address the global chip shortage and strengthen US chip production capabilities. UMC will provide technology and expertise while Polar will oversee manufacturing operations. The joint venture will initially focus on serving US customers and may expand globally in the future.
