Researchers have developed a new fitness metric called Daily Heart Rate Per Step (DHRPS) that can predict heart disease risk better than traditional indicators such as step counts or average heart rate. The study analyzed data from nearly 7,000 participants who volunteered their Fitbit data and found that high DHRPS was associated with higher odds of cardiovascular disease risk. DHRPS is a simple ratio of average daily heart rate divided by the number of steps taken per day, with higher values indicating lower cardiovascular efficiency and poorer heart health.
