SpaceX Scrubs Launch of Amazon's Project Kuiper Satellites Due to Technical Checks

SpaceX is set to launch 24 Amazon Project Kuiper satellites on a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The launch was scrubbed to allow for "additional vehicle checkouts." The mission is part of Amazon's broadband internet satellite constellation, which will consist of over 3,200 spacecraft in low Earth orbit. Liftoff is now scheduled for 9:40 a.m. EDT.

SpaceX is set to launch 24 Amazon Project Kuiper satellites on a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The mission, initially scheduled for August 7, has been scrubbed to allow for additional vehicle checkouts. The launch is now rescheduled for 9:40 a.m. EDT.

The KF-02 mission is part of Amazon's broadband internet satellite constellation, which aims to consist of over 3,200 spacecraft in low Earth orbit. This launch is the second of three planned missions using SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket to deploy these satellites.

Amazon has already deployed 78 satellites through three missions, with the KF-02 mission expected to increase that number to 102. The tech giant plans to deploy over 1,600 satellites by July 2026, as required by the Federal Communications Commission.

The mission will use a new Falcon 9 first stage booster, B1091, which will target a landing on the SpaceX droneship, 'A Shortfall of Gravitas,' positioned in the Atlantic Ocean. This will be the 120th booster landing on this vessel and the 486th overall.

Amazon's Project Kuiper aims to compete in the projected $40 billion global satellite communications market by 2030. The partnership with Australia's NBN Co to deliver satellite broadband to over 300,000 rural customers starting mid-2026 represents Amazon's first major international consumer agreement for Project Kuiper.

The launch will be the fourth mission to deploy fully operational Project Kuiper satellites for Amazon, following two United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 551 rockets and a Falcon 9. United Launch Alliance is also preparing to launch its first batch of 45 Kuiper satellites on its Vulcan rocket, with a date for that mission yet to be announced.
