SoundHound AI(SOUN.US), a "unicorn" of AI voice technology, has acquired Amelia AI for $80 million.
On Thursday, voice AI and conversational AI “unicorn” SoundHound AI (SOUN.US) announced it would acquire AI startup Amelia AI for $80mn in cash and stock.
In a statement, the company said the deal was expected to boost revenue in the second half of next year, with combined revenue of over $150mn, and to see “meaningful” revenue and cost synergies in the coming years, driving growth and profitability expansion.
SoundHound said the combined company would have about $160mn in cash and $39mn in debt once the deal closes.
SoundHound CEO and co-founder Keyvan Mohajer said in a statement: “Amelia is a pioneering company, like us, focused on conversational AI. We look forward to leveraging our combined capabilities to provide the best AI customer support solution.”
Amelia previously raised at least $189mn, including $175mn in March 2023.
SoundHound also reported mixed earnings after the market closed on Thursday, with revenue growth slowing but beating expectations, and raised its full-year revenue outlook but the magnitude of the earnings miss was worse than the market had expected.

SoundHound shares fell nearly 5% after hours. The stock was up 21.16% at the close on Thursday, up more than 102% year-to-date.
