Australian researchers found that households with solar panels can boost their returns by selling surplus power directly to neighbors through peer-to-peer (P2P) energy sharing. P2P can help stabilize the electricity grid and negotiate a better price than retailers currently offer. The study simulated energy generation, consumption, and sharing across four models, including P2P and P2P with batteries, and found that P2P energy sharing delivers significant benefits compared to traditional grid export arrangements.
