Granite River Labs Secures Strategic Partnership with SFW Capital to Fuel Growth

Granite River Labs (GRL), a global leader in test and certification services for digital connectivity and charging technologies, has entered into a strategic partnership with SFW Capital Partners, LP, a specialized private equity firm. The transaction involves a majority recapitalization of GRL, with co-founders Johnson Tan and Quintin Anderson retaining significant ownership and leadership roles. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Based in Santa Clara, California, GRL supports the development and testing of emerging connectivity standards, including USB, Qi wireless charging, and PCI Express, across industries such as consumer electronics, automotive, and industrial automation. The company operates six labs and two R&D centers globally, serving over 200 employees. SFW Capital emphasized GRL's strong technical reputation and growth potential, noting plans to expand capacity, launch new test automation solutions, and pursue strategic acquisitions.

Ahmad Sheikh, Partner at SFW, highlighted GRL's alignment with the firm's expertise in industrial and technology sectors, stating the partnership aims to enhance GRL's global footprint and technical capabilities. Co-founders Tan and Anderson expressed confidence that SFW's resources would accelerate innovation and address rising demands for complex connectivity testing.

This partnership contrasts with recent industry activity, such as SGS's divestiture of its North American powertrain testing operations to Columbia River Partners, underscoring shifting priorities in the testing and certification sector. While SGS has pursued expansion through acquisitions like RTI Laboratories, GRL's collaboration with SFW reflects a focus on founder-led growth strategies.

The transaction, facilitated by KPMG Corporate Finance LLC, positions GRL to capitalize on evolving market needs as connectivity technologies advance. With SFW's support, the company aims to strengthen its role in ensuring standards compliance and reducing time-to-market for clients.
