Saudi Ports adds Hapag-Lloyd shipping service to Jeddah Port

Hapag-Lloyd has introduced the SE4 service, which includes Jeddah Islamic Port as a key call, to adapt to evolving operational conditions in the Middle East. The service operates a rotation spanning Asian hubs, the Middle East, and European destinations, with Jeddah positioned between East and West Med Hubs. The first vessel, Maersk Elba (voyage 611W), is scheduled to arrive at Tianjin Xingang on March 13, 2026, before proceeding through the designated route.

These adjustments follow the carrier's suspension of AGX and IMX services and modified IOS operations, driven by security challenges in the Arabian Gulf region. Hapag-Lloyd cited the need to prioritize crew and cargo safety while maintaining service reliability amid regional instability. The SE4 service aims to provide an alternative routing for shippers affected by disruptions, though delays and transit time adjustments remain possible due to ongoing risks.

For shipments to and from Saudi Arabia, the carrier has implemented additional measures, including the War Risk Surcharge (WRS) and potential port-specific fees. Reefer cargo from India to Jeddah and other affected ports is currently restricted, with further adjustments possible based on operational developments. Customers are advised to account for fluid conditions in shipment planning and to consult Hapag-Lloyd representatives for real-time updates.

The introduction of SE4 reflects the industry's broader efforts to balance operational continuity with safety protocols in volatile regions. Updates on service modifications will be communicated through the carrier's official channels.
