Saskatoon Man Tries to Break In, Ends Up in Attic

A man broke into a Saskatoon couple's house through their roof after initially trying to force his way in through a sliding door. He crawled through the attic, but was caught by police and charged with break and enter. The man was found wearing leaves and dirt, and left behind a shirt and sock in the roof gutter.

Saskatoon residents Matthew and Karen Hardy recently experienced an unusual break-in incident that left them and local law enforcement puzzled. The incident began when a man attempted to force his way into their home through a sliding door around midnight on Saturday. Matthew Hardy, who was home at the time, managed to scare the man away, but the intruder returned later, this time entering through the roof.

The man, described as frantic and covered in leaves and dirt, climbed onto the roof and then into the attic. He crawled through the attic, leaving behind a trail of noise and destruction. Hardy and his wife, Karen, heard the man's movements and called the police again. Officers arrived and found a hole in the roof where the vent had been torn off. A drone was used to locate the suspect in the attic, who was found burrowed under insulation.

The suspect, later identified as a 33-year-old Saskatoon man, was charged with break and enter. He was taken into custody after police accessed the attic through a hitch in a bedroom closet. The man left behind a shirt and a sock in the roof gutter, adding a peculiar touch to the bizarre incident.

The Hardy couple is still trying to make sense of the event, which they described as a "horror-comedy" movie-like situation. The incident highlights the importance of home security and the unusual lengths some individuals may go to in order to evade law enforcement.
