SAP Translation Hub expands language support to over 2800 language combinations with the addition of Large Language Model (LLM) based translation. Users can choose between SAP's machine translation provider and LLM for text and file translations, as well as file and Git projects. The new offering is secure and can be used for confidential content.

SAP Translation Hub, a central service on the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP), has significantly expanded its language support by incorporating Large Language Model (LLM) based translation. This enhancement allows users to choose between SAP's machine translation provider and LLM for text and file translations, as well as for file and Git projects.

The new LLM-based translation offering supports 54 target languages and over 2,800 language combinations, providing users with more choices for their translation needs. This expansion is part of SAP's ongoing efforts to leverage generative AI for improved translation capabilities, particularly for content outside of the SAP domain.

Users can select LLM as their translation engine via the Document Translation user interface or during the configuration of their Git or file projects. The system clearly indicates the translation provider used for each file or text, and the translated files are available for download for up to 72 hours after translation. The application settings also allow users to set LLM as their preferred translation engine and specify their preferred source and target languages for each provider.

SAP emphasizes the security and confidentiality of its LLM offering, ensuring that it can be used for sensitive content. The platform also provides a quality index of 25% for LLM-translated texts, encouraging users to review and verify the translations before use. Translators or reviewers can manually adjust the translations, with the system recording the changes and updating the translation provider status accordingly.

For existing software projects, users cannot change the translation provider once a project has been initiated. However, they can add or remove languages and make other configuration adjustments as needed. The LLM-based translation support is available via APIs for both synchronous and asynchronous Document Translation, as well as for file and Git projects in Software Translation.

SAP recommends using SAP Machine Translation (MT) for SAP-related content due to its superior performance and cost-effectiveness. LLM-based translation is recommended for content outside the SAP domain, particularly for content with quality challenges such as typos or mixed language text. Users can find more information about SAP Translation Hub and its offerings on the SAP Help Portal.
