Rio Tinto has marked the last day of production at its Diavik diamond mine in the Northwest Territories. The mine produced over 150 million carats of rough diamonds over its 23-year operation. Although production has ended, closure activities will continue until 2029. Two other diamond mines are operating in the territory, but the industry faces challenges due to growing popularity of lab-grown diamonds and the need to diversify the economy.
