BALY--
The Bally's proposal, which includes a 500-room hotel and a 2,000-seat entertainment center, has been backed by a majority of the committee members. This support comes as three Manhattan casino proposals were recently rejected, and two more projects are coming up for a community vote. The Bronx project, if approved, would be the third to pass local community committees and could significantly impact the Trump Organization, which sold the land to Bally's for the project. The Trump Organization stands to gain $115 million if the project succeeds, according to testimony made public in a civil trial involving President Donald Trump.
Governor Kathy Hochul's representatives have voted to advance all bids that have gone up for votes so far, and Mayor Eric Adams has supported the project despite hurdles from the City Council. Assembly Member Michael Benedetto and Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson have also expressed support for the project, with Benedetto stating, "I believe, in the end, give the Bronx a chance" and let the gaming regulators decide.
The project would entail 15,000 union construction jobs and 4,000 permanent union jobs, according to Bally's website. If approved, it would be the largest private development in the Bronx.
