Nouveau Monde Graphite, a Quebec-based company, plans to open a mine and plant to produce graphite for electric vehicles, defense, and other sectors. The project, which has been designated a "Major Project of National Interest" by the Canadian government, aims to provide a stable source of critical minerals to Canada and the G7 countries. The company faces challenges in financing, but CEO Eric Desaulniers is hopeful for commercial production within months. The project has received investment from both the federal government and Quebec, and the Atikamekw First Nation of Manawan has struck an Impact Benefits Agreement with the company.
