PWD Kicks Off Pothole-Filling Drive Ahead of Monsoon

The Public Works Department (PWD) in Delhi has launched a campaign to fill potholes on city roads ahead of the monsoon season. Over 2,800 potholes have been repaired in a single day, with 200 maintenance vans and 1,000 personnel involved. The initiative aims to make Delhi safe, beautiful, and accessible. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has predicted more rains during the week.

Delhi's Public Works Department (PWD) has undertaken a significant initiative to address road safety and commuting conditions ahead of the monsoon season. In a one-day operation scheduled for June 24, the PWD aims to repair over 3,400 potholes across the city's roads, a move aimed at enhancing road safety and improving overall infrastructure [1].

The PWD has been working for the past four months to identify and repair damaged stretches of road, with over 1,400 km of roads slated for repair. The initiative, led by PWD Minister Pravesh Verma, will utilize 200 maintenance vans equipped with modern repair tools and high-quality materials, along with over 1,000 workers, engineers, and supervisors [1].

The campaign will cover major arterial roads, internal lanes, and accident-prone spots. Potholes have been identified through citizen complaints, zonal surveys, and drone mapping. To ensure transparency and accountability, each repair will be documented with geo-tagged and time-stamped photos, and a zonal AE and a senior engineer will be assigned to each area [1].

The initiative comes as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall over Delhi and other northern states between June 22 and 26, underscoring the urgency of the PWD's efforts [4]. The PWD's campaign aims to not only repair potholes but also to demonstrate a commitment to accountable governance and improve the overall quality of life for Delhi's residents.
