Polls Show Trump's Age Now Becomes Central Issue: Is He Too Old To Run Against Harris?
The situation of the U.S. election seems to be reversing. After Biden's exit, Trump, who is 78 years old, started facing the main pressure of age issues as well.
According to the latest poll, the number of voters who believe Trump's health condition is sufficient to serve as the President of the United States is declining, and more and more people are beginning to question whether Trump is too old.
Before Biden withdrew from the campaign, 58% of the respondents believed that Trump was in good health; however, when Trump was up against Harris, this figure dropped to 52%. Moreover, more than half of the voters said that Trump is now too old to run for office, a number that was only 44% before.
The arrival of Harris has also led voters to further question Trump's mental state. The proportion of voters who believe Trump's mental strength meets the requirements of the presidential workload has dropped significantly from 53% to 48%.
What is more embarrassing for Trump is that with Biden's withdrawal, the title of the oldest presidential candidate in American history has successfully shifted to him. If he wins, he will also become the oldest president in American history, surpassing Biden's current record, which makes it difficult for voters not to see Biden's poor performance as Trump's future.
Biden's old age mainly made voters worry that the prophecy of Sleepy Joe would come true, but Trump's old age obviously represents a more complex predicament for voters. Voters are not only worried about Trump having the same problems as Biden, such as speech loss and difficulty in movement but also alert to Trump's stubbornness and capriciousness, which may increase with age.
The survey shows that about 82% of voters believe that Trump's poor decision-making ability and abnormal behavior are key issues, and about three-quarters of voters say that Trump is unable to communicate effectively with the American public, American officials, and global governments, which will greatly weaken America's international influence.
However, Harris, who is only 59 years old, does not have these troubles. 71% of voters believe that Harris is healthy, and 64% believe she is mentally healthy, which has greatly reversed the distrust of the Democratic Party when Biden was running.
At the same time, Harris is leading on issues such as abortion, climate crisis, education, healthcare, and American democracy, further expanding the Democratic advantage. At the same time, Harris has also narrowed the leading advantages of Trump in gun policy, crime, economy, and diplomacy.
In addition to the competition between Harris and Trump, the comparison between the two running mates is also very important. However, Harris's running mate, Wolt, and Trump's running mate, Vance, are both low-key politicians with no famous reputation, and there are currently no intuitive data to compare the support rates of the two.
But what is unfavorable to the Republicans is that Vance recently caused dissatisfaction among young female voters for attacking Harris as a childless cat lady, and he has been continuously criticized for his early extreme conservative remarks.
Some pessimistic people point out that Vance may not be a help to Trump, but a clear deduction item.
