The joint venture comes at a crucial time as regulatory signals evolve and the need for sustainable environmental, social, and economic development remains paramount. PMI's research indicates that projects aligned with social good are nearly twice as likely to succeed, but only 22% of current projects meet this standard. This partnership aims to provide a clear roadmap for implementing sustainability effectively across various sectors.
Pierre Le Manh, PMP, President & CEO of PMI, commented, "Sustainability transformation is one of the biggest challenges of our time. This joint venture will place project professionals at the center of this transformation, turning good intentions into meaningful, measurable action across industries and globally."
GPM's certifications, learning programs, and standards, such as the GPM® P5 Standard for Sustainability in Project Management and the Sustainability Competence Standard, will be integrated into PMI's learning ecosystem and global community platforms. These resources will provide professionals with actionable guidance for assessing, measuring, and continuously improving the sustainability performance of their projects.
The collaboration builds on a long-standing relationship between PMI and GPM, which has included GPM's Sustainable Project Management (GPM-b™) certification course being offered to PMI's global community since 2022. GPM will retain its research and advisory activities and a minority stake in the joint venture for at least the next five years, actively contributing to the new venture's thought leadership and content.
Joel Carboni, Founder of GPM, stated, "The future of project management must move beyond delivering outputs. Projects must play a critical role in generating prosperity, restoring ecosystems, and building more equitable communities. This joint venture brings us closer to making sustainability and regeneration core to the profession."
This joint venture is expected to enhance PMI's leadership in transforming the project management profession, empowering professionals to drive meaningful change through sustainability. The partnership is a testament to the growing importance of sustainability in project management and the industry's commitment to creating a more resilient and prosperous future.
