On April 9, 2025, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) saw a significant increase in trading volume, with a turnover of 4.81 billion, marking a 36.26% rise from the previous day. This surge placed PG&EPCG-- among the top performers in the stock market, ranking 366th in terms of trading volume for the day. Additionally, PG&E's stock price rose by 5.46%.

PG&E has initiated substantial energy infrastructure upgrades in San Jose, California, as part of a collaborative effort with real estate developer Westbank. This initiative aims to create a net-zero community by integrating three data centers with up to 4,000 residential units. The excess heat generated by these data centers will be repurposed through a district energy system to heat and cool surrounding buildings, aligning with San Jose's sustainability goals.

The project, which includes the rebuilding of a key substation and several transmission interconnection enhancements, is expected to deliver approximately 200 megawatts of power to the data centers. This infrastructure upgrade will not only support the net-zero community but also benefit San Jose's new rail service, incoming developments, and the electrification of homes and vehicles.

San Jose City Council has unanimously approved the advancement of the first two data centers, with the first data center anticipated to be operational by late 2027. The groundbreaking for the Net Zero community is expected to occur later this spring, starting with the rehabilitation of the historic Bank of Italy building. This building will feature all-electric mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, as well as new energy-efficient windows, and will include 114 residential homes integrated into the district energy system.
