The strike began after Perrigo refused to negotiate its plans to roll back overtime protections and stop making contributions to workers' retirement plans. The company has been expanding operations at the Bronx plant to seven days a week, which could potentially eliminate workers' ability to earn overtime pay on weekends [1].
Perrigo, a consumer healthcare drugmaker, has been hiring replacement workers on a permanent basis to maintain operations during the strike. The company has posted notices near the picket line informing striking employees that they may be permanently replaced if they do not return to work [3].
The union has accused Perrigo of using intimidation tactics to force workers back to the bargaining table. Perrigo, however, maintains that it is taking necessary steps to ensure product availability and has offered a counteroffer to pay some workers an additional $2 per hour on Saturdays and Sundays instead of the existing overtime rate [2].
Bargaining is scheduled to resume on September 10, 2025. The union has called on Perrigo to do the right thing and come back to the bargaining table to work out a fair agreement for all workers.
