The controversy intensified after the company announced its expansion of operations in Fort Worth, Texas, which will support defense-sector initiatives. While the partnership has historical roots, dating back to 2019, the recent announcement triggered a new wave of user discontent. Some customers canceled their subscriptions or expressed discomfort with the company's alignment with defense and intelligence contractors. Despite these concerns, Oura maintains that the collaboration is aimed at improving service member performance through health and wellness insights and has no bearing on consumer data privacy.

Hale also addressed the broader landscape of wearable technology, noting that the market is evolving with a shift toward smaller and more affordable wearable devices in regions like Asia and India. However, Oura remains confident in the growth trajectory of its product, with the company reporting more than 100% year-over-year growth. Looking ahead, Oura envisions a future where wearable devices are not only diverse but also highly specialized based on clinical use cases. The company is also exploring partnerships with healthcare providers such as Medicare Advantage to expand its reach and utility.
