"OpenAI's Altman Unveils GPT-5 Rollout Amidst AI Battle"
Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has announced that the rollout of GPT-5 is expected in the coming weeks. This news comes amidst a growing battle in the AI landscape, with the emergence of Chinese AI startup DeepSeek having a significant impact on the market.
Altman shared a roadmap on X, outlining the company's plans to simplify its AI products. The roadmap includes the release of Orion (GPT-4.5), which will be the last non-chain-of-thought model, and the unification of the o-series and GPT-series models. GPT-5 will integrate a lot of OpenAI's technology, including o3, and will be available as a system that unifies the company's chatbot models.
The free tier of ChatGPT will have unlimited chat access to GPT-5 at the standard intelligence setting, subject to abuse thresholds. Subscribers will be able to run GPT-5 at a higher level of intelligence, while Pro subscribers will see even better intelligence levels. Altman expects the delivery of GPT-5 in weeks or months.
Last month, Altman praised DeepSeek's impressive model, acknowledging the market competition and stressing the need for better AI models. He noted that the world needs more AI as excitement builds ahead of the next generation.
The crypto market has seen positive trends in AI coins, with anticipation growing for new developments from AI firms. In the last 24 hours, AI coins have surged 3%, notching trading volumes above $3.4 billion. Top coins like Near Protocol and Internet Computer have flipped green, posting 2.7% and 0.5% gains, respectively.
However, the wider crypto market continues to struggle, with Bitcoin's price plummeting below 100K. At press time, Bitcoin's price sits at $96,578, a slight 1% decline today, while several altcoins saw larger losses. The total digital asset market cap dropped to $3.17 trillion after a brief rebound the previous day.
