NVIDIA Secures Export Licenses for H20 Chips to China, Faces Geopolitical Hurdles

This development comes after NVIDIA's CEO, Jensen Huang, previously indicated that the company aims to increase the supply of H20 chips that meet the requirements of the Chinese market and plans to introduce more advanced semiconductor products.

In July, NVIDIA expressed optimism about resuming sales of its H20 graphics processing units (GPUs) to Chinese customers, based on the U.S. government's promise to grant the necessary export licenses. Kress also noted that NVIDIA's Chinese clients are eager to ensure that the Chinese government recognizes the import of H20 chips, expressing confidence in the potential for progress on this front.

Kress further emphasized that if the chip sales are successfully executed, they could contribute up to $50 billion in revenue for the quarter. She acknowledged that while it is difficult to predict the exact revenue from this business at this point, the company had previously estimated that resolving the geopolitical issues could result in a potential revenue opportunity of $20 billion to $50 billion.
