NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA) and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC) have announced a groundbreaking collaboration aimed at developing multiple generations of custom data center and personal computing products. The partnership, which includes a significant investment by NVIDIA, seeks to integrate NVIDIA's AI and accelerated computing technologies with Intel's CPU technologies and x86 ecosystem.

Under the agreement, Intel will design and manufacture custom x86 CPUs for NVIDIA's AI platforms, while also developing new client system-on-chips (SoCs) that integrate NVIDIA RTX GPU chiplets. These products will cater to both data centers and personal computers, combining Intel's CPU technology with NVIDIA's GPU expertise. The collaboration will leverage NVIDIA's NVLink to seamlessly connect the two architectures, delivering cutting-edge solutions for various markets.

NVIDIA has committed to investing $5 billion in Intel's common stock at a purchase price of $23.28 per share, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. The investment underscores NVIDIA's confidence in Intel's capabilities and the potential of the collaboration.

The partnership raises questions about the future of Intel's own graphics IP, particularly the Intel Arc GPUs. If Intel focuses on NVIDIA RTX architecture, there may be limited room for its own graphics technology. However, the collaboration is expected to benefit customers by delivering integrated, high-performance computing solutions.
