Halifax, July 2, 2025 - The Dome Nightclub, a prominent establishment in downtown Halifax, is currently appealing a proposed seven-day suspension of its liquor licence. The suspension was issued by the Nova Scotia's Alcohol, Gaming, Fuel and Tobacco Division following alleged violations of the Liquor Control Act. The bar's owner has challenged the decision, allowing the nightclub to remain open until the matter is heard by the Nova Scotia Energy Board.

The allegations, which occurred on June 6, 2024, include serving alcohol to a minor and allowing employees to drink while working. The proposed suspension also includes new conditions such as only allowing liquor to be sold by the glass and prohibiting liquor bottles at a customer's table, even as part of VIP service. Staff would also have to attend an instructional session organized by the Alcohol, Gaming, Fuel and Tobacco Division.

The Dome Nightclub has a history of liquor licence suspensions, with a previous four-day suspension in 2023 for allowing intoxicated customers back into the bar. The current appeal is a significant event for the Halifax nightlife scene, as it could set a precedent for future disciplinary actions against other establishments.

The hearing is scheduled for Aug. 26, 2025, before the Nova Scotia Energy Board. The outcome of the appeal will determine the fate of the Dome Nightclub's liquor licence and the conditions under which it can operate.
