The Delhi Police has registered a case of negligence following the collapse of a four-storey building in northeast Delhi's Welcome area on Saturday, July 12, 2025. The incident resulted in the deaths of six family members and injured eight others. The building owner, Abdul Matloob, and his family were among the deceased. The rescue operation, which involved multiple teams from the Delhi Police, fire services, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), concluded after several hours. The building collapse occurred while the family was in the process of moving into the 20-year-old structure, having recently lost their previous home in Gautampuri due to a fire.
The deceased include Matloob (50), his wife Rabia (46), their sons Javed (23) and Abdulla (15), daughter Zubia (27), and two-year-old granddaughter Fozia. Eight others, including Matloob's sons Parvez (32), Naved (19), Parvez's wife Siza, and their one-year-old son Ahmad, and four members of a neighboring family, sustained injuries.
The Delhi Police has registered an FIR under different sections of the Building and Other Laws (BNS) and has formed multiple teams to investigate the collapse from various angles. The incident has sparked concern among local residents and raised questions about building safety and maintenance in the area.
The building housed an anganwadi on the ground floor, which was closed at the time of the incident. Locals rushed to help before fire officials arrived, with seven fire tenders and the NDRF joining the operation.
