The election in Nilambur was a closely contested four-cornered battle, with the United Democratic Front (UDF), Left Democratic Front (LDF), National Democratic Alliance (NDA), and an independent candidate vying for the seat. The result was seen as a key indicator for the upcoming 2026 Kerala Assembly elections.
Shoukath, who is the son of late Congress stalwart Aryadan Muhammad, campaigned on promises to address issues such as human-animal conflict, delayed welfare pension payments, and the local impact of the Israel-Palestine conflict. He also addressed the alleged links between the Congress and Jamaat-e-Islami.
The voter turnout in Nilambur was 75.87%, despite heavy rainfall. Shoukath's victory margin was forecast to be around 15,000 votes, according to UDF managers, while LDF workers expected Swaraj to win by 10,000 votes. The final results were expected later on Monday, June 23, 2025.
Shoukath has already begun his campaign to develop Nilambur, rallying through various panchayats and municipalities with UDF leaders and supporters. His focus will be on reviving stalled projects and ensuring that the constituency receives the attention it deserves.
