In an effort to boost its revenue collection, NDMC is developing two new commercial complexes on vacant sites in the city [1]. One project, located opposite Prithviraj Market, includes demolishing the existing area and rebuilding it with offices and shops. The complex will span at least eight storeys, with shops on the ground floor and offices above. NDMC aims to get a built-up area of 1 lakh sq feet from this project.
The second project, in front of Akbar Bhawan in Chanakyapuri, involves developing a multi-storey commercial complex with four basements and 10 storeys. The tender process for this project was previously under litigation in the Delhi High Court but has since been resolved, with the detailed estimate under revision for further processing [1]. NDMC expects to work out the tender process for this project within the next six months.
These commercial hubs are part of NDMC's broader strategy to improve its infrastructure and generate additional revenue. The council is also considering utilizing the existing open parking sites for underground multi-level parking facilities to accommodate the increased demand for parking in these areas [1].
