Navigating Hope at Mount Arlington Library: Assistance and Resources Available

The Mount Arlington Library will host the Navigating Hope van on June 12, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 04:00 PM. The van will provide assistance with SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, and other programs, as well as connect individuals to services for health and wellness, domestic violence, aging, WIC, and EITC. The event aims to help individuals access necessary resources and support.

More than 30 state supreme court chief justices have sent a letter to Congress urging them to protect the funding for the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) following President Donald Trump’s proposed elimination of the agency in his fiscal 2026 budget proposal. The LSC, established in 1974, provides financial support for legal aid to low-income individuals in the United States.

The letter, addressed to House and Senate appropriators, highlights the critical role of the LSC in supporting hundreds of thousands of cases related to domestic violence, family, and child safety, housing security, and veterans. The agency's funding generates an average return of $7 for every $1 spent on legal aid, according to the letter [1].

The 2026 budget appendix requests $21 million for an “orderly closeout” of the LSC, which had requested $2.1 billion for fiscal 2026. The state chief justices warn that the consequences for citizens would be “disastrous,” potentially slowing court procedures and causing a backlog of other cases.
