Recent market dynamics indicate institutional activity as a key driver, with the stock’s volume surge exceeding typical patterns for its sector. To run a rigorous test we need to decide a few practical details that aren’t fully specified yet: Universe definition • Which market should we draw the “top-500 by daily trading volume” from (e.g. all U.S. listed stocks, only the S&P 500 constituents, another country, etcETC--.)? • Do you want to rebalance against the *whole* universe every day (true top-500 each day), or against a fixed list (e.g. today’s S&P 500 list)? Price convention • Buy at today’s close and sell at tomorrow’s close (Close→Close return) is the most common 1-day test. Is that acceptable? Practicality / platform limits Our current back-test engine is designed for a single-ticker or event-driven test. To execute a daily 500-stock rotation we’ll need to break it into smaller groups or use a representative universe (e.g. top-100) so the tool set can handle it. – Are you comfortable with testing on, say, the top-100 by volume instead of 500, or should we look for another approximation (e.g. equal-weighting within today’s S&P 500)?
