Microsoft (MSFT.US) on Wednesday announced the development of an artificial intelligence (AI) model for video games that can help generate visual effects and actions. The model, named Muse, was created in collaboration with Ninja Theory, a developer under Microsoft's gaming division Xbox Game Studios. As the cost of developing video games continues to rise, the development of AI is accelerating. Consumer spending on new games remains weak as people continue to buy established games amid economic uncertainty. "We are already using Muse to develop a real-time playable AI model that has been trained on other first-party games, and we believe this work has the potential to benefit both players and creators," said Fatima Kardar, Microsoft's vice president of gaming AI. Microsoft also reportedly released a new quantum chip called Majorana1 on Wednesday, saying that humans are now just "a few years" away from achieving true quantum computing. Some analysts believe quantum computing may not become a separate computing field but instead enhance Microsoft's other businesses, such as AI.
