Metaplanet's $44M Bitcoin Bet Boosts Stock 19%

Metaplanet, a Japanese investment firm, has significantly bolstered its Bitcoin holdings, purchasing nearly $44 million worth of BTC despite market volatility. This acquisition aligns with the company's aggressive accumulation strategy and has contributed to a surge in its stock price over the past year. Metaplanet has also reported substantial first-quarter gains and remains focused on its long-term BTC goals.

In a recent announcement, Metaplanet's CEO, Simon Gerovich, revealed the purchase of an additional 497 Bitcoin, totaling an investment of $43.9 million at an average price of $88,448 per coin. This acquisition has brought Metaplanet's total Bitcoin holdings to 2,888 BTC, with an average purchase price of $83,172 per coin. As of March 5, 2025, Metaplanet's Bitcoin investment is valued at nearly $251 million, with Bitcoin trading at $87,475.

Following this announcement, Metaplanet's stock value surged by 19% on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, reaching 3,985 Japanese yen ($26.60) per share. This growth marks a significant increase from the company's stock value, which had previously taken a hit due to a broad market downtrend. Over the past year, Metaplanet has emerged as one of the best-performing stocks, growing by 1,700% in value. This latest BTC investment is the second purchase made by the company this week, following a previous acquisition of 156 BTC on Monday.

Metaplanet's aggressive Bitcoin accumulation strategy has paid off, with the company recording $66 million in gains during the first quarter of 2025 alone. The firm has purchased a total of 794.5 BTC in 2025, bringing its total holdings closer to its goal of 21,000 BTC by 2026. As a result of its continued purchases, Metaplanet has become the corporation with the 12th biggest BTC reserve and has surpassed Boyaa Interactive International as one of the largest BTC investment corporations in Asia.
