Meta Platforms (META.US) is reportedly planning to test a paid subscription service for its artificial intelligence chatbot MetaMETA-- AI, similar to the access to advanced versions of chatbots offered by OpenAI and MicrosoftMSFT--. The testing is set to start in the second quarter of this year, but the company expects the subscription service to generate meaningful revenue as early as next year, according to sources. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is seeking to strengthen the company's position in the competition for artificial intelligence, which is backed by Microsoft's OpenAI and Google. Zuckerberg said in January that the company planned to spend $65 billion this year to expand its AI infrastructure. Meta is also reportedly working on a new division within its Reality Labs unit to develop humanoid robots that can assist with physical tasks, according to an earlier report this month. The social media giant is also reportedly planning to launch a standalone Meta AI app in the second quarter, joining Facebook and Instagram.
