Meta, Facebook's parent company, is planning significant cuts in resources for the Metaverse, with some reports suggesting a 30% reduction in 2026. The Metaverse group, part of Reality Labs, has reportedly lost over $70 billion since 2021. The cuts are expected to affect the virtual worlds product Meta Horizon Worlds and the Quest virtual reality unit, with layoffs possible as early as January 2026. The company will funnel savings toward other futuristic projects, including AI glasses and wearables.
