A jury has awarded $2.87 million in compensatory damages and $6 million in punitive damages to 24 residents of Carson, California, who were exposed to toxic hydrogen sulfide gas in 2021. The gas was caused by a massive hand sanitizer fire at a Prologis Warehouse, which was stockpiled outside the warehouse for six months. The defendants, including the property manager, owner, and tenants, denied responsibility and claimed the odor was unforeseeable. The trial lasted 50 days and involved 80 witnesses and experts in various fields.
