Marqeta to launch new offering in wallet for kids
Marqeta, a leading fintech platform, is expanding its digital wallet capabilities with a new offering tailored for younger users. The platform’s existing infrastructure supports the creation and management of user accounts, including the ability to establish parent-child relationships that allow children to draw funds from a parent’s account. This functionality is already used in expense management scenarios, where businesses fund employee accounts through a centralized parent account. The new offering is expected to leverage similar mechanisms, enabling parents to manage their children’s spending while maintaining control over the primary account. The platform allows for the configuration of spend controls, which can limit where and how much a child can spend. Additionally, identity verification processes such as Know Your Customer (KYC) and Address Verification System (AVS) will apply to ensure compliance and reduce fraud risk. The GPA (General Purpose Account) associated with each user will serve as the funding source for transactions, with balances accessible via the /balances endpoint. This development aligns with Marqeta’s broader strategy to provide flexible account management tools for a range of use cases.
