The police analyzed CCTV footage and traced the suspect to Chepauk, where he was arrested at around 9 p.m. The suspect, identified as Balaji, is a fish vendor from Villupuram.

The incident took place around 4 p.m. when the schoolteacher, Roslin, was waiting to board a train. According to the CCTV footage, a man walked up to her and sat next to her on the bench. He then snatched her gold chain and fled the scene. Despite her cries for help, no one came to her rescue as there were only a few passengers at the station at the time.

The police were able to trace the suspect using the CCTV footage and arrested him at Chepauk. During the interrogation, Balaji confessed to the crime. The police are now investigating if he has been involved in similar thefts in the past.

This incident highlights the importance of CCTV surveillance in railway stations to deter and apprehend criminals. The quick arrest of the suspect within hours of the incident is a testament to the efficiency of the GRP in Chennai.
